Isabelle

Listening to: “P.I.M.P.”, by 50 Cent, outrunning Hurricane Isabel in a rental car on I-95 North So the regional governments went into disaster mode and shut down Washington DC on Thursday. The US Navy put the entire fleet out to sea. (Wait, is that a good idea in this era of heightened security?) Even my…

Lost in Translation

Listening To: Airport announcers warn people about parking in the “Red Zone”, in transit between Boston and DC If you haven’t had a chance to see “Lost in Translation” by Sofia Coppola (starring Bill Murray) put it on your list. The story of two Americans who find themselves untethered in a foreign country, it should…

The father of the Hydrogen Bomb

September 11th. Oh yeah, everyone made a big deal out of it, but I frankly don’t see the point. Something far more important should be commemorated this week (and never again): the death of Dr. Edward Teller. Teller is credited as the father of the Hydrogen Bomb, but frankly, he should be thought of as…

Scenes from a wedding

After being up for twenty four hours (six of them playing blackjack and craps), I stumble into a Days Inn in St. Louis for the third of five weddings I’m supposed to attend this month, not counting the one in China. An hour from now I need to be downtown to attend yet another Catholic wedding of a dear friend.

I’ve spent long stretches of time underground in caves with the groom, sometimes with inadequate light, not enough food or water, and occasionally without a map and lost. I have no doubt today will be a walk in the park for him.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

I can’t believe it’s here, and has been in stores now for 4 days and I didn’t notice:

It’s not as if I wasn’t paying attention, but then, work’s been really busy.
I’m running out now to buy it. I’ll post comments about it as I’m working my way through it. Update: I finished the game in 31 hours of playing. In the game, 135 days of game time has passed. My review is below.

Hey, I’m no longer flashing the neighborhood

I spent most of Sunday installing blinds on my upstairs, so that I’m no longer flashing the neighborhood every time I get dressed, take a shower, etc.

This entry is all about my blog experiment. I made blogs for as many people as I could push them onto, in order to see what sorts of people actually update them. I mean, there’s this whole idea that the whole world can now publish on the Internet if it wants to, what if the world doesn’t have anything to say?

So, on a regular basis, more or less every week or two, I’ll post the links to all the blogs I’ve made, and tell you about their progress. And, here we go…

Max Payne

One of the reasons I’ve not bought an Xbox (besides having the use of one at work) is because there’s nothing besides Halo that I want to play on it. I’m not into Sports Games, and so all the football, basketball, and baseball games are right out.

One of my colleagues, John Linden, told me about Max Payne. John has pretty refined tastes, (he’s also a huge Busta Rhymes fan) and so when I was in CompUSA on a plastic-induced buying spree recently, I picked up a copy of Max thinking I would get tired of it in a few days and sell it back in a while.

I was so wrong.

Kinkos

Ok, I just went into a Kinko’s and was blown away.

If you have even the scantest amount of memory, and you’re over 30, you remember that Kinko’s used to be copy machines. I just ended up going into Kinko’s to have them copy and bind a color presentation for me ($800 ugh!) and was stunned.
