Extremely cautious advice for buying and sanitizing groceries

Jeffrey VanWingen, a family physician in Grand Rapids, MI, does a video about applying sterile Operating Room procedures to your groceries and take out.

He’s pretty up front about doing it with current and somewhat incomplete knowledge about how the virus lives on surfaces and in the air. It’s very thorough, and if you were caring for someone immunocompromised I think you would execute all these steps. Even if not, there are some good food safety tips here.

Much like the monster from John Carpenter’s The Thing, he doesn’t think the freezer kills the hostile organism but a microwave is effective on other kinds of coronavirus strains. He also recommends choosing warm food over cold food for the same reason.

There’s probably something in here for everyone to learn from, even if you don’t do all these steps.
