Baby Einstein videos debunked

I long ago made a vow not to be that parent that railroaded my kid into some form I predetermined.  I refused to choose his day care in order to choose the right pre-school in order to choose the right primary to get into the right high school to send him to the Ivy League so he could get a high paying career.

People actually do that, believe it or not.  We didn’t play Mozart through headphones when he was in vitro, and we didn’t try and use the Baby Einstein videos.

Now comes evidence that not only are they a sign of obsessive over-parenting, but they may be damaging as well:

For every hour a day that babies
8 to 16 months old were shown such popular series as "Brainy Baby" or
"Baby Einstein," they knew six to eight fewer words than other children, the study found.

Honestly, relax.  Your kid will not become smart because you force him to watch TV an hour a day.  Even if it wasn’t those videos, I suspect it might have the opposite effect.
