Anarchy at Sea
The latest issue of The Atlantic Monthly has a cover story on my favorite topic, piracy. Although historically piracy has been portrayed as romantic (it’s wasn’t), piracy in modern times is actually quite a bit easier to pull off, and it’s far more profitable.
The techniques of modern day pirates, how and where they operate, and what sorts of hauls they get are covered in this excellent article that centers around one of the few modern day piracy gangs who were caught after hijacking a ship in the Straits of Malacca, off the coast of Sumatra.
Pick up this issue, it’s worth the read.
